Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby Competition
Seven teams arrived in the wind and rain to take part in the annual Year 5 and 6 tag rugby competition at Crawley Rugby Club, run by Competition Manager Holly Sutcliffe and Community Rugby Coach, Mick Orton.
In the morning Mick, assisted by other coaches from Crawley Rugby Club, led the pupils in a warm up followed by some intensive skills coaching, to prepare them for the afternoon's competition. After lunch the tournament got underway. The competition was impressive as teams battled against each other to score tries and individuals showed off their skills and speed. Mick Orton said "watching the children improve and progress throughout the day was fantastic". Parents and teachers who were supporting agreed and thought that the festival was well-organised and "good fun with impressive sportsmanship".
All the children, coaches and teachers battled with the elements as the snow began to fall but continued to play enabling Gossops Green Primary School to be crowned the champions, and will go through to represent Crawley in the county final at Horsham Rugby Club in June.
All players took home a goodie bag from the event and said that they loved getting muddy! Well done to all teams involved and remember to check out the photos of the event!
