Hi 5 Netball Competition
This years Hi 5 Netball competition was hosted by Thomas Bennett Community College on Wednesday 17th March.
Eleven teams entered the competition and were divided up into different leagues. Each team had a squad of between 6 and 9 players, which allowed everyone to rotate and have the opportunity to play in different positions throughout the competition.
The Olympic theme for this competition was ‘excellence’ and it was great to see a display of high standard netball from every school. After each team had played one another in their respective leagues, the top teams from each group battled it out in the semi final rounds. Both semi finals were very close with all four teams displaying some excellent skills and teamwork.
The final was played between Maidenbower and Gossops Green A teams, which proved to be a nail biting match! After two halves of six minutes the teams could not be separated, forcing them into a golden goal scenario, whereby an extra six minutes would be played and the first team to score would be crowned champions. I think everyone would agree that this was a very tense and exciting game of netball and after several opportunities from both teams, it was Maidenbower Juniors who scored that vital goal claiming the title and proudly taking the trophy back to their school.
Congratulations to everyone who took part, a fantastic afternoon was had by all in the sunshine. A big thank you to all of the SSCos and leaders who gave up their time to help umpire throughout the afternoon.
